Justice validates creation of future fast CDG Express train between Paris and Roissy airport

The connection which must connect in twenty minutes the East station and Roissy airport had aroused the opposition of associations and elected officials.

Epilogue of a case where the Paris Administrative Court of Appeal validated Thursday, April 28, the continuation of the site of the future fast train Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG) Express between Paris and Roissy airport, returning to A previous court decision. This 32 km link must link the Gare de l’Est, in Paris, and Roissy airport in twenty minutes, with a train every quarter of an hour.

In its judgment, the Court “considers, contrary to what the administrative court had judged, that the project is justified by an imperative reason of major public interest, allowing to derogate from the provisions (…) of the code of the ‘Environment concerning the protection of animal species, “said this jurisdiction in a press release.

The dispute that led this case to justice more particularly concerns the portion of new paths which extends over 4.4 kilometers at the level of Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne). This commune led by Communist Charlotte BLANDIOT-FARIDE had attacked the prefectural decree authorizing the project to cross areas where protected species live.

“The train of the rich”

The progress of the site had been initially disrupted by a judgment of the administrative court of Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), which had stopped the work in early November 2020 by canceling the derogation. The judges then considered that the infrastructure was not “essential” to the point of destroying biodiversity. In fact, the project leaders had quickly obtained authorization to resume the work pending the decision on the merits.

In the eyes of opponents of the project, including left -wing elected officials and environmental defense associations, “the train of the wealthy” is built at the expense of daily public transport, in particular the RER B and D.

The CDG Express site is controlled by CDG Express, an infrastructure manager held in equal parts by ADP group, SNCF Network and the Caisse de Dépôts.
