Release WineVDM 0.8, layers to launch 16-bit Windows applications

released New version WinEvdm 0.8 – Compatibility layer to launch 16-bit Windows applications (Windows 1.x, 2.x, 3.x) on 64-bit operating systems broadcasting programs written for Win16, in Win32 calls. The binding of the started programs to WINEVDM is supported, as well as the installation of installers, which makes work with 16-bit programs for the user indistinguishable from working with 32-bit. The project code extends under the GPLv2 license and is based on the operations of the Wine project.

Among the changes compared with the previous release:

  • simplified installation.
  • Added support for DDB (Device Dependent Bitmaps), for example, allowing you to play the game Fields of Battle.
  • Added subsystem to run programs that require real processor mode and do not start on versions of Windows 3.0 and higher. In particular, Balance of Power is launched without alteration.
  • improved support for installers, thanks to which the shortcuts to the installed programs appear in the “Start” menu.
  • Added support for operation running Reactos.
  • Added emulation of coprocessor X87.
