Heads of BRICS space agencies signed an agreement on cooperation in field of satellite data exchange

Today, on August 18, 2021, a meeting of the heads of space departments of the BRICS countries was held in the format of video conferencing.

The event was attended by General Director of Roskosmos State Corporation Dmitry Rogozin, President of the Brazilian Space Agency Carlos Augusto Teisher de Mura, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization Dr. K. Sivan, Head of the Chinese National Space Administration Zhang Khajan, Executive Director of the South African National Space Agency Dr. Valanatan Munsami, representatives of foreign policy departments of the BRICS member countries.

Heads of specialized departments of the “five countries” discussed current issues of international cooperation in the field of space space, global trends in space development, and also submitted reports on national achievements in the field of use and development of outer space for peaceful purposes.

During the meeting, the heads of space agencies signed an agreement on cooperation in the exchange of satellite data of the remote sensing of the Earth. The agreement will contribute to cooperation between the space agencies of the BRICS countries in creating a virtual grouping of remote sensing satellites and data exchange, which will help solve problems such as climate change, environmental protection and elimination of the effects of natural man-made disasters.

Dmitry Rogozin noted that the agreement on cooperation in the field of satellite grouping of remote sensing of the land of the BRICS countries will be another significant step towards the development of mutually beneficial five-day cooperation in the field of research and development of outer space for peaceful purposes. In addition, he stressed that this agreement demonstrates the transition of BRICS countries from bilateral arrangements in the field of space activities to the implementation of cooperation in multilateral format under BRICS.
