President of Poland to sign a controversial law on Jews

Poland’s President Angey Duda decided to sign a controversial law regarding the restitution of the property of Jews affected during World War II. This is reported by TASS with reference to the office of the head of state.

Polish leader noted that after a thorough analysis decided to sign the amendments taken by the Seimas and the Senate to the Administrative Code, which became the subject of lively debates not only in the country, but also abroad.

“I am convinced that my signature ends the era of legal chaos – the era of reprivatization mafia, the uncertainty of millions of Poles and the lack of respect for the elementary rights of citizens of our country. For I believe in the state that gives citizens to protect against injustice,” Duda emphasized.

He rejected the rhetoric coming from abroad and put forward arguments that the new law is aimed at a special group of Jews survived after the mass destruction by the fascists. The head of state added that not only as president, but also as a person, he did not remain indifferent to the issues of the Holocaust, and Poland keeps the memory of the crimes of Nazism and will not allow this for political purposes.

Earlier by the President of the European Jewish Congress (Eck) Vyacheslav Moshe Kantor stated that the new law on property restitution adopted in Poland infringes the Jewish population of the country, is “discriminatory and immoral.” The law approved by the Lower Chamber of Poland’s Parliament does not allow the heirs of Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust, to receive compensation for the property confiscated by the Nazis or Communists. Kantor stressed that the innovation almost directly distinguishes the Jews as those who are not allowed to return their property confiscated in the last century.
