100-year-old European airline will lay off all employees

Czech Airlines plans to lay off all 430 employees due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Seznam Zpravy writes.

A European airline with almost a century of history (founded in 1923) decided to take such a step due to financial problems. She previously requested state support in the amount of CZK 1.1 billion (over $ 51 million). However, the Czech Ministry of Transport, Industry and Trade said they were not ready to support the company.

Earlier, the CEO of the aviation giant Airbus Guillaume Faury said that forced layoffs of workers may be necessary to save the concern. In July last year, Airbus already announced its intention to lay off 15,000 employees worldwide.

One of the largest airlines in Europe – Air France – is also forced to go to massive layoffs. In the next two years, the carrier intends to cut about 7.5 thousand jobs. Another aviation giant, German Lufthansa, is also preparing for massive layoffs, tens of thousands of people may be left without work. The company believes that in the new reality, about 26 thousand positions are redundant.
