DietPi 10.6: Single Board PC Distribution Update

DietPi 10.6 has been released, tailored for single-board PCs utilizing ARM and RISC-V architectures like Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, NanoPi, BananaPi, BeagleBone Black, and more. Based on Debian packages, this distribution offers over 50 board-specific assemblies and can also be used to create minimal environments for virtual machines and x86_64 PCs. With an average size of 130 MB, these board-specific assemblies are smaller compared to Raspberry Pi OS and Armbian. The toolkit for building and maintaining DietPi is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Designed for minimal resource consumption, DietPi includes various unique utilities such as the DietPi-Software installer, DietPi-Config configurator, DietPi-Backup system, DietPi-Ramlog for managing temporary logs, DietPi-Services process execution priority settings, and DietPi-Update for update delivery. These utilities offer a console user interface with menus and dialogs powered by whiptail, supporting fully automated installation without user intervention.

Notable changes in version 10.6 include:

  • Support for Orange Pi 4 Pro and Orange Pi Zero 3W with Allwinner A733 SoC and Linux 6.6 kernel.
  • Added support for Odroid M1, M1S, and M2 boards using Rockchip RK3568, RK3566, and RK3588 SoCs.
  • Driver inclusion for ASUS USB keyboards on Allwinner, Amlogic, and Rockchip chip-based boards.
  • Display of disk space usage for mounted devices in login information, alongside systemd service failure messages and Fail2Ban blocking for network interfaces.
  • IPFS network node deployment capability for RISC-V boards via DietPi-Software.
