Waste incinerators turned out to be too expensive for Russia

The project for the construction of incinerators throughout Russia, prepared by RT-Invest, a subsidiary of Rostec, turned out to be too expensive. Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, who oversees the environment in the government, said this on her page in Instagram . / p>

“Why do we need expensive electricity and gold waste?” – the official was outraged, recalling that it is proposed to pay for the work of the factories from the budget and at the expense of the population.

In total, the company offered to build 25 such factories. Following the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, the relevant departments were instructed to analyze in detail the financial model of the investment project. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) will also be involved in the work.

At the same time, Abramchenko doubted that the country, in principle, needs so many factories for this type of disposal. According to her, there should be a balance with other investment projects, including sorting and recycling of waste, separate collection of garbage and recovery of useful fractions from it.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted an audit of the activities of the “Russian Environmental Operator” (REO) over the past two years and revealed many shortcomings. The main ones were the lack of a strategy and target indicators, as well as super profits of the company’s employees.

The REO was supposed to oversee the garbage reform, but did not even follow the situation in the regions, and the reports sent to the ministry were replete with dubious information. Russian President Vladimir Putin commissioned the creation of the company in January 2019.
