WHO shares findings on vaccine effect

It is too early to conclude that vaccination leads to long-term protection against coronavirus. This opinion was shared by the head of the Department of Immunization of the World Health Organization (WHO) Kate O’Brien in an interview with “Lente.ru”.

According to O’Brien, scientists still have not been able to establish for certain how long the effect of the vaccine lasts. “Preliminary research results show that immunity lasts for several months, but its full duration is not yet known,” she said.

The representative of WHO stressed that the organization will continue to analyze all incoming vaccine data.

In total, several COVID-19 vaccines are widely used worldwide. Among them are drugs from the American pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna, the Swedish-British company AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, as well as the developments of the Chinese companies Sinopharm, Sinovac and CanSino. Currently, over 200 vaccines are in development, of which more than 60 are in clinical trials.
