Mask mode crashes mint gum sales

With the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic and the introduction of social distance between people and the mask regime, sales of peppermint gum and lollipops for breath freshening have hit. Reported by The Insider.

Sales of gum and hard candy fell 20 percent as people started wearing masks, according to Hershey’s last quarter reports. Although Hershey’s overall sales grew 5 percent, baked goods and savory snacks were the merit.

“Social distancing continues to affect the functional need for breath freshening,” a company spokesman said. To remedy the situation, Hershey has launched an ad campaign that tweets mints as a breath freshener after wearing a mask for hours.

The fall in sales of gum is not the only trend set by the pandemic in the market. For example, in the United States, sales of artificial meat rose sharply. Sales of alternative meat increased by 264 percent between February 2 and May 2, 2020, according to Nielsen.

This happened due to the suspension of large meat processing plants, supply disruptions, shortages of natural meat and rising prices for it.
