President of Kyrgyzstan thanked Russia and promised to pursue a multi-vector policy

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov at the inauguration ceremony thanked Russia for its help in stabilizing the situation after the October events. RIA Novosti reports.

“The insurgent people achieved the resignation of the president and the government, the cancellation of the election results. We managed to stabilize the situation. We express our deep gratitude to all countries that provided us with invaluable assistance, especially Russia, as well as our neighbors – Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,” he said .

He promised that Kyrgyzstan will continue to pursue a multi-vector policy, strengthening relations with strategic partners.

Earlier on January 28, Zhaparov officially took office as President of Kyrgyzstan. At the inauguration ceremony, he took the oath, promising to work for the good of the people, and then kissed the country’s flag.

On January 16, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan announced the victory of Japarov in the early presidential elections with 79.23 percent of the vote. His inauguration will take place on January 28. As a presidential candidate, Japarov described post-election relations with Russia. He stated: “This is our most important strategic partner.” If he won the election, he promised to “continue this”.

On January 10, an early presidential election and a referendum to determine the form of government were held in Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the latter, more than 1.1 million citizens supported the strengthening of the institution of the president, 152 thousand (11 percent) supported the parliamentary form of government, 62 thousand (4.5 percent) against all.
