Economist predicted a rise in prices for an important product

Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Credit of the School of Economics and Management of the Far Eastern Federal University Maxim Krivelevich in an interview with URA.RU predicted an increase in prices for an important product – bread.

According to him, bread may rise in price due to an increase in import duties on grain in Russia. “We will get a terrible rise in food prices. Because the peasants will not have money,” said the economist.

However, Candidate of Economic Sciences, specialist in macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, lecturer at the Ural State Economic University Konstantin Yurchenko did not agree with the expert’s opinion, noting that the government is trying to contain the rise in food prices.

He pointed out that usually the increase in import duties on grain is carried out in order to avoid deficits in the domestic market. In the event that wheat prices are higher in other countries, it will be more profitable for the manufacturer to transport the product abroad and produce there. “In order to reduce the profitability of such activities, export duties appear,” the specialist said.

According to the economist, producers will not lose part of their profits if they leave grain on the domestic market. at the same time, one should not expect super-profits.

In December it was reported that difficulties began in Russia with the supply of wheat for border against the backdrop of announced quotas and duties on grain exports, which should enter into force on February 15, 2021. Thus, Russian exporters complain about the delay of goods at customs for inspection for up to ten days, problems with the registration of grain for shipment by rail towards the Baltic ports, as well as the deterioration of the situation with the acceptance of grain for transportation towards the southern ports.
