Socialist Party: Olivier Faure cuts ties with François Hollande

The first secretary of the Socialist Party has responded to the sharp criticisms of the party’s strategy made by the former President of the Republic.

By

The two men met in Jarnac (Charente), Friday January 8, during the ceremonies celebrating the 25 th anniversary of the death of François Mitterrand, but not a word was exchanged between the former President of the Republic and the current first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS). For two years François Hollande and Olivier Faure have not spoken to each other and only the tribute to the tutelary figure of the left could still bring them together. The day before, the one who led the PS for eleven years had, in an interview published in Sud-Ouest , reiterated his “advice” to his socialist friends.

An interview during which François Hollande once again said all the harm he thinks of the PS while giving some lessons in political strategy. This time, Olivier Faure, who is preparing the regional elections but also the national deadlines of 2022, has decided not to let it go. “When you claim to gather and unite, the first rule is not to shoot against your own camp. It is not on the chaos of the left that a candidate can thrive in 2022”, retorts t -il.

Critique of the unitary line

In his interview of January 7, the former head of state has indeed, once again, criticized the unitary line carried by the number one of the PS: “Calling for the gathering of scattered political families, without central force and without a leader to embody the alternative, is a sympathetic step but vain”, attacks Mr. Holland. And to add, while the left and the ecologists begin to position themselves for 2022: “Candidates, we always find some, but without a dynamic and a project to carry them, they are personalities, not contenders for the victory . “The more acerbic tone ended up annoying his successor at the head of the PS.

In the eyes of Olivier Faure, Hollande still thinks he can play a central role in his camp and has not understood that he was no longer listened to by his family. But beyond that, it is a real disagreement on the liabilities left by the five-year term that the first secretary intends to remind his detractor. “When François Hollande became president, we were in the majority in the Assembly and the Senate, all the regions were led by Socialists except one, ditto in more than half of the departments and most of the big cities. At the end of the five-year term , there was nothing left. Worse, the Prime Minister was ready to challenge him in the primary and the Minister of the Economy had gone free lance, “says the deputy of Seine-et-Marne in reference to Manuel Valls and Emmanuel Macron .
