Slacko Puppy 7.0 distribution released

Four years after the last update a new release of the minimalistic distribution has been prepared Slacko Puppy 7.0 using the Slackware package base and Puppy Linux technologies such as the build system Woof-CE . The distribution is binary compatible with Slackware Linux, but it also allows you to install PET packages specially designed for Puppy Linux. The distribution kit is initially positioned to run on outdated hardware. The size of the boot image 340 MB (x86_64, i686).

The distribution uses JWM window manager and Rox Filer file manager. The delivery includes a set of GUI configurators (Puppy Control Panel) and widgets (Pwidgets – clock, calendar, RSS, connection status, etc.) developed in the depths of the Puppy project. The interface of standard Puppy applications such as Pmusic and Pequalizer is built using a revised version of the GtkDialog program. To configure the network using wired and wireless communication channels, its own Frisbee Network Manager configurator is used, in addition to which the delivery also includes the classic Simple Network Setup and Network Wizard configurators.

In new release :

  • The distribution is synchronized with the Slackware 14.2 package database and the Salix repositories.
  • Added support for booting on systems with UEFI.
  • Added a new installer FrugalPup, which supports installation on systems with UEFI and BIOS, as well as can install the system not only on a hard disk, but also on external USB and SD / MMC drives.
  • New color scheme suggested, icons updated and user interface optimized.
  • New Linux kernels packages added and new “change_kernels” script proposed to make changes easier Kernel.
  • JWM window manager updated to version 2.3.6.
  • The latest release of Firefox ESR is offered as the main browser. Seamonkey is also available from the repositories and there is a script to install the Vivaldi browser.
  • The GUI program for configuring the packet filter has been improved.
  • Samba is included in the base.
