Russians warned about cold snap after New Year holidays

In the European part of Russia, a cold snap is expected after the New Year holidays. The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand warned about this, reports RIA Novosti .

According to him, the temperature will drop in the western regions of the country with the beginning of the working week. This forecast will be relevant for the entire European part. A sharp deterioration in the weather will occur on January 11: so, at night the thermometers will show up to minus 16 degrees, and during the day – up to minus 13 degrees. The temperature will be three degrees below normal. The next day frosts will continue, and the height of snowdrifts will also increase.

Cooling will come due to the passage of the cold front, the weather will be cloudy and with snow. In some places, the temperature will drop to minus 18 degrees, the meteorologist predicted.

It will also get colder in the south of Russia. Very warm temperatures for January will drop by 5-6 degrees on January 10th. Nevertheless, they will only approach the norm, but still will be higher than it, and night temperatures will be below zero.

At the same time, until the end of the holidays, the weather will be comfortable, “mild winter”. On January 8, forecasters expect a slight warming to minus 2-4 degrees, on January 9 it will be minus 6-8 degrees, on January 10 – up to minus 10. Such indicators exceed the usual values.

Earlier, Vilfand called 2020 the warmest year in Russia in the entire 130 summer history of meteorological observations. Record rates were recorded in all federal districts of Russia, except for the North Caucasus. In particular, the average annual temperature in Moscow over the past year turned out to be three degrees above normal.
