Honda to leave Russia

Japanese automaker Honda has announced that it will stop delivering new cars to Russia in 2022, reports Interfax citing the company.

The decision to leave the country was dictated by Honda Motor’s automotive business development strategy aimed at restructuring operations, the automaker said. The company plans to continue supplying new motorcycles and power equipment to the Russian market, as well as to maintain after-sales service for cars.

In Russia, Honda was represented by two models – CR-V and Pilot. From January to November, only 79 cars were sold in the country.

In October it became known that Honda will cease to produce cars for Europe with gasoline engine by the end of 2022. The company also intends to discontinue the production of diesel vehicles as they lose popularity. Honda will focus on hybrid and electric cars.
