Release of TimescaleDB 2.0 DBMS

Published DBMS release TimescaleDB 2.0 , designed for storing and processing data in the form of a time series (slices of parameter values ​​at specified time intervals, the record forms a time and a set of values ​​corresponding to this time). This form of storage is optimal for such applications as monitoring systems, trading platforms, systems for collecting metrics and sensor states. Means are provided to integrate with the Grafana and Prometheus project. The TimescaleDB project is implemented as an extension to PostgreSQL and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.

Part of the code with advanced features comes under a separate proprietary license Timescale (TSL), which initially did not allow changes, prohibited the use of code in third-party products and did not allow free use in cloud databases (database-as-a-service). In version 2.0, TSL license were added changes, giving users more rights and allow free use of all possibilities enterprise versions including compression, multi-node storage, and continuous aggregation. The license removed restrictions on the scope of Community-assembly, granted the right to make improvements and changes, removed paid bindings and added right to restore … All features previously offered in TimescaleDB Enterprise have been moved to the Community edition.
