Doctors named characteristic features of a cough for coronavirus

Doctors named several features of the cough that are characteristic of the coronavirus. The BGR portal reports.

So, according to Nate Favini, MD, patients with COVID-19 always have a dry cough, without sputum production. However, its intensity may vary.

At the same time, Sarah Narayan, MD, an allergist at Emerson Hospital in the USA, believes that a dry cough can be a symptom of not only coronavirus, but also asthma, allergies and gastroesophageal reflux. According to her, in the event of a dry cough, attention should be paid to the presence of wheezing – this symptom is characteristic of asthma, and practically does not occur in patients with COVID-19. If this symptom is a consequence of an allergy, it should disappear after taking antihistamines.

At the same time, doctors agree that it is necessary to evaluate the cough in conjunction with other manifestations of malaise.

Previously, doctors described the so-called postcoid syndrome – unpleasant symptoms that can disturb patients who have had coronavirus for several months. Among them – weakness, which does not leave patients for months, even young ones, as well as severe headache and mental disorders.
