Merkel to talk to Macron about closing EU-British borders

The Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel will soon call the President of France Emmanuel Macron and talk to him about closing the borders of all EU for the UK. This was reported on Sunday, December 20, by Bild newspaper .

Merkel is determined to impose restrictions on Britain. Currently, the German government is closely monitoring developments in this country “and is making every effort to assess information about a possible variant of the virus,” the newspaper notes.

Earlier on December 20 it became known that the EU countries began to restrict air traffic with Great Britain in connection with the discovery of a new type of coronavirus in its territory. In particular, the Belgian authorities announced the closure of the borders with Britain. Germany refused to accept flights from the UK and South Africa. The Netherlands also limited the number of flights from the United Kingdom until January 2021.

On December 14, UK Health Minister Matthew Hancock said that a new strain of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that spreads faster than the original form. The virus is more easily transmitted from person to person and therefore more contagious, he said.
