Effectiveness of new American Covid-19 vaccine revealed

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published the results of testing a new American vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus by biotechnology company Moderna. It turned out that the effectiveness of the drug after the second dose reaches 95 percent, according to NPR.

According to an FDA filing, the vaccine is safe and serious adverse reactions were rare. Among the unpleasant consequences, experts call painful sensations at the injection site, fatigue and headaches. Both vaccinations are given 28 days apart. However, for older people (65 years of age and older), the vaccine efficacy decreases slightly, reaching 86 percent.

The FDA will ask a panel of experts to assess whether the available scientific evidence is sufficient to authorize emergency use of the Moderna vaccine. They will also determine what additional research the company should conduct to further evaluate the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.
