Biden wants to continue trade war with China

President-elect of the United States Joe Biden has nominated Catherine for the post of Chief US Trade Representative Tai, known for her critical attitude towards China and its economic policies, writes CNBC.

According to analysts interviewed by the publication, this may indicate that the future head of state does not intend to end the trade war with China, which has been ongoing since 2017. Tai must be approved by Congress. If that happens, Tai will become the first Asian woman in a US trade mission. She speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, and from 2007 to 2014 represented US interests in disputes with China under World Trade Organization (WTO).

Experts say that Biden and his future administration is preparing to accept the credentials of the Trump , symbolizing the intention to actively protect the country’s interests in international trade and counter China’s growing influence, including competition from Chinese companies in the US market.
In particular, Biden is going to carefully analyze the first phase of the trade deal concluded in January by Trump and Chinese President Xi Szinping. Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, which reduced demand for most goods and services, the parties did not fully comply with its terms.
Analysts believe that Tai, like Biden in general, intend to more actively involve international institutions in resolving issues with China, in particular the WTO and World Bank . This may negatively affect the position of Beijing as narrow down the possibilities for softer bilateral agreements. P>
