Sudan: robbers attacked consulate of Ukraine

In the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, robbers attacked the consulate of Ukraine. SUNA agency reports.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, December 8. The bandits, disguised in the uniform of the armed forces, broke into the diplomatic mission. However, they did not manage to leave the building: a detachment of the Rapid Support Forces (SOP, an analogue of the internal troops formed from former militias who participated in the coup and under the jurisdiction of the government) entered the battle with the bandits – approx. ” Lents.ru “).

The criminals were arrested. The Consul of Ukraine in Sudan, Musa Muhammad Said, later went to the police in person to identify the hijackers. The stolen money and valuables were returned.

The SOP’s participation in the detention of criminals was explained by the fact that some of the bandits wore identification marks of the same unit.

On April 11, 2019, the Sudanese army staged a coup in the country after four months of popular protests. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of the president, who had been in power for 30 years. Despite the coup, the protests did not stop. The participants also demanded the transfer of power to civilians for a three-year transit period. Sudan has been temporarily suspended from membership in the African Union.
