WHO on role of coronavirus vaccines in achieving “new normality”

World Health Organization (WHO) spoke about the role of vaccines against coronavirus in the fight against pandemic and their role in achieving the “new normal”. This was stated by the director of the emergency program Michael Ryan , quoted by RIA Novosti .

“We hope that we can add vaccination to the measures already being taken to contain the pandemic. But I want to be clear – vaccination does not mean eradicating COVID-19,” he said.

According to Ryan, vaccines should be combined with other measures to combat the pandemic. This can work to stop mortality and relieve the burden on health systems. Only then, according to the WHO spokesman, the economy and society will be able to return to normalcy, or to a “new normalcy”.

On December 2, WHO recommended wearing masks outside. Representative of the organization Margaret Harris said that the universal mask regime should be introduced in all places where there is no good ventilation and it is impossible to maintain a distance of at least one meter.

According to the latest data, 65 million people are infected with coronavirus worldwide. More than 1.5 million people have died from complications caused by COVID-19.
