Xiaomi smartphone will receive most powerful processor in world

The first smartphone on the top-end Snapdragon 888 chip will be the flagship from Xiaomi, reports the GizmoChina edition citing the company’s CEO Lei Jun.

The new processor for Android flagships, which is considered the most powerful in the world, was presented at the Snapdragon Summit 2020. At the end of the conference, Jun published a post on Weibo, where he stated that Xiaomi Mi 11 will be the first on the market to receive the new chip.

Reporters noticed that Xiaomi is also the first smartphone manufacturer to reveal the exact name of the future Snapdragon 888-based device. In total, at the presentation of the processor, 11 companies were named whose devices will receive the current processor. In addition to Xiaomi and its subsidiary Black Shark brand, Snapdragon 888-based flagships will be launched by ASUS, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Vivo and ZTE. Samsung is not on this list – the authors believe that the company will either transfer all its gadgets to Exynos processors, or get a different version of Snapdragon.

The chip presented at the conference is the successor to the Snapdragon 865. It comes with a third generation modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G, supports mmWave and sub-6 5G networks, screens with display frequencies up to 144 hertz, simultaneous operation of multiple SIM cards.

The exact release date of the Xiaomi flagship has not been reported. According to journalists, the first devices based on the new chip will be presented in early 2021.
