Poorest countries were allowed not to pay their debts

The 46 poorest countries in the world received deferral of debt payments in the amount of $ 5.7 billion. They were allowed not to pay yet due to the difficult situation with the coronavirus pandemic, writes Prime.

Allowing the poorest countries to defer payments on bilateral loans is one of the G20 initiatives as part of the pandemic response package. It was adopted in April by a group of 20 most developed countries in the world.

Earlier it became known that the volume of world debt by the end of this year will reach a record $ 277 trillion (365 percent of global GDP). It has grown by 15 trillion since the end of last year. The debt of developing countries is almost 210 percent of their total GDP.

Experts named an increase in the number of loans from outside states and corporations due to low interest rates. In this regard, economists predict the occurrence of defaults.
