The Islamic State Organization (IS), defeat in Iraq and Syria, announced Wednesday, November 30, the death of its chief, Abu al-Hassan al-Hachimi al-Qourachi, adding that the Iraqi had been killed ” By fighting the enemies of God “.

In an audio message, the spokesperson for the jihadist organization, Abu Omar Al-Mouhajir, announced that a new “Caliph des Muslims”, Abou al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qourachi, had been named . However, he does not specify the circumstances of the death of the group’s leader and also does not give any indications on the one who succeeds him at the head of the IS.

The latter all bear the name of Al-Qourachi, in order to refer to the tribe of the Prophet Muhammad, whose self-proclaimed “caliph” must be a descendant.

The two previous chiefs killed this year

After a dazzling rise in power in 2014 in Iraq and Syria, and the conquest of vast territories, the IS saw its “caliphate” self -proclaimed to be overturned under the blow of successive offensives in these two countries, respectively in 2017 and 2019.

Since then, the organization has been destabilized several times by the death or capture of its leaders. The first head of IS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in an American raid in 2019 in Syria.

His successor, Abu Ibrahim al-Hachimi al-Qourachi, was eliminated in February in an operation of American special forces in the northwest of the country. Maher al-Agal, who had taken his sequel, was then killed in mid-July in an American drone strike in the northwest of the country.
