Higher studies are now prohibited from Afghanes, the Taliban government announced on Tuesday, December 20. “You are all in duty to implement the order mentioned to suspend the education of women until further notice,” wrote the Minister of Higher Education Afghan, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, in a letter addressed to all universities public and private of the country.

Ziaullah Hashimi, ministry spokesperson who broadcast the letter on Twitter, confirmed the information to the France-Presse agency (AFP). The decision was announced less than three months after the university entrance exams, in which thousands of girls took part. Secondary education was already prohibited.

When they returned to Kabul, in August 2021, the Taliban had promised to be more flexible, but they largely returned to the ultra -regigrist interpretation of Islam in force during their first passage to power, from 1996 to 2001. Liberticide measures have multiplied, in particular against women, who have been gradually excluded from public life. In an unexpected flip-flop, on March 23, the Taliban had ordered the closure of colleges and high schools for girls, just hours after their reopening, announced for a long time.
