Val-d’Isère, in Free-Style

At the heart of the Alpine station, the Le Val-d’Isère hotel was, before being renovated in 2021, one of the sets of the film “Les Bronzés are skiing”. Cozy and wooded, the 404 bedroom overlooks the church bell tower and the pedestrian center.

The tone is set upon entry. Backed at the reception, a bench facing in a cast iron bathtub allows you to settle down to withdraw gaiters and snow crampons. A wink to the trove spirit inscribed in these places. Built in 1968 in a condominium which includes a shopping center and housing, in the center of the village, this hotel has long been prized by celebrities for its festive atmosphere. In 1979, the Splendid troupe filled several scenes from the cult bronzes there – among others that of the scrabble launch.

The architect Jean-Charles Covarel acquired the place in 2017, and his teams completely renovated it in a Savoyard style, revisited four years later. In the bedroom 404, we find the cozy codes of the chalet – wooden panel doors, tartan carpet, thick curtains … Black stone slabs dress the shower cabin. The balcony overlooks the pedestrian streets and the bell tower of the Saint-Bernard de Menthon church.

Meals are served in the large living room on the ground floor, whose warm decoration evokes both English pubs and houses family in the mountains. Farm tables, retro sofas, club armchairs and floor lamps with fringed lampshades rub shoulders with a colorful flower carpet. As it should be, board games stacked on the shelves underline the intention to create a friendly space. The snow front is two minutes of walking.

a 30 meters: an architectural vestige

Built in the 18th century e century, the Maison Moris is the oldest in Val-d’Isère. Today it is divided into apartments. Its two doors, one on the other, intrigue: that of the bottom was reserved for livestock (which shared the home of the family to ensure a bearable temperature), and that of the top was accessible to the inhabitants by a staircase. Its Lauzes roof is not very steep because the falling snow was used to isolate the house, in addition to the hay stored in the attic.

a 75 meters: an avalanche of sweets

Maison Chevallot is full of refined sweets concocted by Patrick, the son of the founders. Besides the bears to marshmallow, nougats and other fruit pasta, there are the specialties that make the establishment renowned, such as the blueberry, raspberry and hazelnut meringues. This year, a pair of chocolate skis filled with praline flavored with raspberry appeared in the shop, in tribute to the local Olympic champion, Clément Noël, medalist in Beijing, very close to the family.
