“These images, these words, these homophobic acts must disappear from the speakers of football and sport”: the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, claimed sanctions on Monday, January 16, following the brandy banners the day before by Ultras from Montpellier during the Ligue 1 match between Montpellier-Hérault and Nantes.

“Their authors must be identified, sanctioned and kept permanently away from the stages”, she tweeted .

The incriminated banners were deployed by MHSC ultras, who intended to protest against the catastrophic results of their team, beaten 6-1 four days earlier in Nice and close to relegation. Among these insulting messages, two banners where “tapete team” were written and “go and do you en …”.

In addition to this action, the Montpellier ultra deserted their gallery during the first fifteen minutes, before returning and throwing smoke on the lawn, causing an interruption of the meeting.

Their banners were also denounced on Twitter by Hervé Martin, deputy mayor PS of Montpellier, and Michaël Delafosse, in charge of sports, who said he was “scandalized” by these “vulgar and homophobic insults”. “I hope sanctions will be taken,” he added. Montpellier bowed 3-0 at the end of the match, and occupies the 15 e place de L1 with two points ahead of the relegation first, Brest.
