What to do in Paris with children? Five scientific activities for all ages

Traveling in time of dinosaurs, discovering humanoid robotics, learning astronomy, learning to code by tasting … In and around Paris, here are some ideas for outing for science, from 4 to 18 years old .

Inaugurated in June 2021, the Espace Les Etincelles took over the activities of the Palais de la Découverte during the renovation work of the scientific museum. Located a few steps from the Eiffel Tower and next to a beautiful playground, the fun and colorful building welcomes children from 6 years old (accompanied by an adult), who will find in the four mediation spaces, including A superb planetarium, enough to satisfy their curiosity for the universe of science.

The great success of the place is due to the presentations and workshops issued by scientists. These researchers or teachers are all experts in their field, very gifted for popularization towards the young audience and not without humor. The presentation “Time travel of dinosaurs” – where we learn that birds descend from theropods, including the famous tyrannosaurus! – has completely transformed the gaze of our 6 year old child on the Parisian pigeon.

Between a live session to the planetarium on stars and galaxies (from 7 years old), experiences in physics on electrostatic (10 years and over), a presentation on DNA (from 12 years old ) or on raw materials in perfumery (14 and over) and a series of experiences on superconduction (15 years and over), everything is there to spend an enriching afternoon with your tribe.

At the Cité des Sciences, in the heart of the Villette Park, we know the Cité des Enfants- two thematic courses for 2-7 year olds and 5- 12 years old -, the lab of the city of babies (from birth to 23 months), the Library of Sciences and Industry, as well as the exhibitions addressed to the little ones.

We know less that the place offers internships for families all year round. On half a day, they allow you to learn programming (January 15) and humanoid robotics (February 18), discover astronomy (February 25) or to create its perfume (March 4 ).

The Cité des Sciences also designed science internships from half a day to three days for young people aged 6 to 18 during school holidays. Already available for booking, those for winter holidays adapt to all ages and all tastes: “Apprentice Builder” (6-8 years old); “Archaeologist” (6-8 years old); “Build your musical instrument” (9-12 years old); “Astrojunior Diploma of Little Bear” (9-12 years old); “Cafard robot” (9-13 years old); “Spy of secret services” (9-12 years and 11-15 years old); “Create your video game” (10-14 years old); “Molecular chemistry” (9-12 years and 11-15 years old); “Build your game controller” (12-18 years old).
