The assessment of the repression of the protest movement that has been shaking Iran since September continues to increase. According to a press release from the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), “at least 326 people, including 43 children and 25 women, were killed by the security forces during the demonstrations across the country”.

The NGO also specifies that it is a “minimum”, adding that it did not take into account “a large number of dead dead” that it is still checking. The latest assessment of the non -governmental organization was 304 dead a week ago. IHR includes people killed in the province of Sistan-et-Baloutchistan (Southeast), bordering Pakistan, at least 123 victims, according to his count. Among these, more than 90 perished on September 30 during a demonstration in Zahedan, chief town of the province, to protest against the rape of a 15-year-old teenager charged to a police officer, in the city Port of Chabahar.

The director of IHR, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, called on the international community to act to put an end to repression in Iran. “The establishment of an international mechanism of investigation and empowerment by the UN will facilitate both the process aimed at keeping the perpetrators responsible in the future and will increase the cost of continuous repression by the Islamic Republic”, he said.

Iran is the scene of demonstrations since the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian 22 -year -old Kurdish, three days after his arrest by the Police of manners for having presumed the strict clothing code of the Islamic Republic . The challenge, part of the rejection of these clothing restrictions imposed on women and of the indignation raised by the death of the young woman, has evolved into a movement directed against theocracy in power in Iran since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
