Genode Project Releases Public OS Sculpt 23.04

Genode.org presented the Sculpt OS release 23.04 project, which is developing a general-purpose operating system based on the Genode OS framework. The system is capable of executing everyday tasks and is designed for use by ordinary users. The initial texts of the project are distributed under the AGPLV3 license.

Users can load Sculpt OS by downloading the liveUSB-image, which has a size of 28MB. The system is designed to work on processors and a graphic Intel subsystem with VT-D and VT-X extensions, as well as on ARM systems with VMM expansion.

The project’s major innovations include Pinephone smartphone support, which allows for an interface option for mobile devices. The update function of the loading image in live mode has been added, and the user interface has a switch function between Sculpt OS versions. Additionally, support for pretexts that easily change the scenarios of an application with one click of the mouse button has been added.

Furthermore, support for transitioning to sleep mode is also expanded. The system is equipped with a graphic Leitzentrale interface that allows for typical system administration tasks. The system provides an interface that allows the user to determine the composition of the systemic environment or virtual machines by arbitrarily adding or deleting components in interactive mode.

Users can switch to console control mode at any point to provide greater flexibility in management. Launching the Tinycore Linux distribution in virtual machine with Linux allows users to obtain a traditional desktop environment with access to Firefox and Aurora browsers, text editors based on QT, and various applications. The surroundings of Noux are proposed to launch the disposal of the command line.

Genode provides more information about the project and its components in its documentation.
