US Prepares for Cyber Battle with China’s Hurricane

The US declares China as a primary threat in cyberspace

The head of the Agency for ensuring infrastructure and cybersecurity within the US Department of Internal Security, Jen Isterley, announced that China is the primary threat in cyberspace. She made the statement during a cybersecurity event where she described China as a “climate change” and Russia as a “hurricane”. Isterley stressed the importance of sustainable cybersecurity, safe technologies, corporate responsibility, and constant cooperation.

Furthermore, Isterley assessed the American intelligence community’s position on Chinese cyber threats. According to her, China can potentially “subject the critical infrastructure” of the USA in case of conflict and block the Taiwanese Strait in an attempt to join Taiwan.

However, Nathaniel FIC, the US ambassador for special assignments overseeing the cyberspace and digital policy sphere, believes that the cybersecurity strategy should not be built only on an “anti-Chinese or anti-Russian position.” FIC suggested that a more positive and convincing concept is necessary to gain other countries’ support.
