Yandex Explains GPS Malfunctions in Moscow

Errors in Yandex Navigator Not Related to Site Malfunction, Says Company

MOSCOW – Yandex, the Russian technology company, has issued a statement saying that errors in determining the geopolitus in its Navigator application are not due to malfunctions in the site itself but rather GPS failures. The company said that this problem is not limited to Navigator and it affects all services that use the definition of geoposition, including navigation applications and fitness bracelets.

In addition, Yandex clarified that the erroneous information is received from the device, such as a smartphone or tablet, and not directly from the satellite.

The statement was made in response to a report by Moscow-based Baza telegram channel, which announced that navigation within the Boulevard and Garden Ring in Moscow has been jammed due to preparations for the Victory Parade. The report said that the GPS location change will be activated during the event, and mobile devices using maps and navigators may experience strong failures.

A similar technical solution was previously used in Moscow, but usually just next to the Kremlin.
