NITROX 2.8 Distribution Includes NX Desktop

Nitrux 2.8.0 Linux Distribution Released, Featuring Built-In NX Desktop

The latest version of the Debian-based Linux distribution, Nitrux 2.8.0, has been released by NXOS.org. The distribution is built on the KDE technologies package base and utilizes the open-source initialization system OpenRC. Nitrux 2.8.0 features its own desktop environment, the NX Desktop, which is a superstructure over KDE Plasma. This version of Nitrux has also been optimized for tablet & touchscreen devices with Maliit Keyboard screen keyboard pre-installed, allowing for text entry without a physical keyboard.

To develop the distribution’s applications, the project is using the open-source library, MauiKit. The set of user applications are being developed in accordance with typical user requirements and can be used on desktop systems and mobile devices. A self-sufficient Appimages packages system is being used for installing additional applications on the system. The distribution’s size is 3.3 GB.

NX Desktop offers a completely different design style, as well as its notification output center, implementation of the system tray, and various plasmoids such as network connection configurator, and multimedia applets to regulate the volume and control playback of multimedia content. The applications that have been created using MauiKit include Index file manager, Note text editor, Station terminal emulator, VVAVE Musical player, CLIP video player, NX Software Center application control center and PIX Viewer.

The latest version of Nitrux features many new updates, including Linux 6.2.13 core with patches from Liquorix, KDE Plasma 5.27.4, KDE Frameworks 5.105.0, and KDE Gear (KDE Applications) 23.04. Additionally, the distribution now offers Android application support using Waydroid, and the Waydroid service is launched using OpenRC.

Nitrux uses the Calamares instrumentation for the installer. All of the project’s releases are distributed under free licenses.

The distribution is available now for download from SourceForge. To preview the distribution, visit the Nitrux official website.

Overall, Nitrux 2.8.0 offers users a feature-rich experience with its own desktop environment, many pre-built applications, and excellent customization options for all types of users
