Over 1k Lose Cryptocurrency to Ob Fraudster

Novosibirsk, Russia – A 31-year-old resident of Ob has been apprehended by the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Novosibirsk Region for his involvement in the abduction of cryptocurrencies from internet users through the use of malicious programs.

According to investigators, the suspect had purchased “Malicious Programs for the Installation of Users’ Passwords” from closed internet resources. These programs enabled him to carry out the illegal “Cryptocurrency Proceedings” since 2018. The press service reported that more than a thousand network users fell victim to the hacker’s activities.

A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Part 1 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of Russia, which pertains to the “Creation, use, and distribution of harmful computer programs.” To uncover further instances of the suspect’s illicit actions, ongoing operational measures are currently underway.
