Linux 6.6 Core Classified with Long-Term Support Issues

Linux 6.6 nucleus is set to receive updates until at least December 2026. However, there is a possibility that the term will be extended to six years like the 5.10, 5.4, and 4.19 branches, which would mean support will last until December 2029. Renewal core for conventional releases is only available until the next stable branch is released. For example, updates for a branch of 6.5 were produced until 6.6.

The long-term support for Linux also includes the following:

  • 6.1 – Until December 2026 + support in the framework of SLTS (used in Debian 12 and Main to the OpenWRT branch).
  • 5.15 – Until October 2026 (used in Ubuntu 04.22, Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7, and Openwrt 23.05).
  • 5.10 – Until December 2026 + support in the framework of SLTS (used in Debian 11, Android 12, and Openwrt 22).
  • 5.4 – Until December 2025 (used in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 6).
  • 4.19 – Until December 2024 + Support for SLTS (used in Debian 10 and Android 10).
  • 4.14 – Until January 2024.

Additionally, the Linux Foundation Organization provides separate support for certain cores. For the nuclei 4.4, 4.19, 5.10, and 6.1, the organization offers Super Long-Term Support (SLTS), which can be accompanied for
