Japanese Brewery Uses AI to Develop New Drinks

Japanese brewery Kirin Holdings has announced that it is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into its product development process. As part of its innovative approach, the company conducts surveys among consumers to gather their opinions about its products. However, this feedback collection process can be time-consuming, taking up to 50 hours.

Prior to the surveys, customers are invited to taste the products, which can further prolong the collection of opinions and potentially impact the clarity of their expressions due to excessive tasting. This survey methodology slows down the overall process of developing new products. In order to expedite this process, Kirin has decided to experiment with AI.

Currently, AI is being used to develop one of Kirin’s drinks. The company hopes that by incorporating AI, it will be able to reduce the development cycle of new products. The plan is to utilize generative AI to analyze surveys conducted during customer interviews and generate valuable ideas for creating new products. However, it is important to note that AI-generated recipes will still be tested by humans before any drink is released for sale.
