Mozilla: descriptions of 80% of applications in Google Play are not true

The non -profit organization Mozilla Foundation accused Google that 80% of the applications in the Google Play Store have incorrect labeling in the descriptions of “Data Safety”.

According to Mozilla, the label “Safety of Data” in Google Play is misleading users, claiming that neither Tiktok nor Twitter* transmit personal data to third parties, but in the policy of the confidentiality of the applications it is explicitly stated that they are divided by user information With advertisers, Internet providers, platforms and many other types of companies.

Research group Mozilla studied 40 applications and the accuracy of information in the” Data Security “section.

Almost 80% of the applications have some discrepancies between the confidentiality and information politicians, which the developers provided in the form of Google data, and 40% of the applications received a “bad” assessment for data security. According to Mozilla, only 15% of the applications can have a positive assessment.

Paid applications have also been checked. 10 of the 20 best paid applications Google Play are unsafe for user data, including Minecraft, Hitman Sniper and Geometry Dash, Facebook*, Messenger*, Samsung Push Services, Snapchat, Facebook Lite*and Twitter.

According to Mozilla, this problem is due to the fact that the developers do not need to report that their applications are exchanged with data with “service providers”. The application scheme also uses narrow definitions for the “collection” and “exchange” data, which allows developers to avoid negative marks.

The Google representative criticized and stated that Mozilla reports combined the privacy policies of the entire company intended for various products and services, with separate marks that inform users about the data that collects a particular application. The arbitrary estimates that Mozilla Foundation appropriating the applications are inaccurate due to the erroneous methodology and the lack of confirming information.
