At the start of the annual edition of Mania series, the presentation of the selection was, as every year, held in two stages, Wednesday February 8: a morning press conference in Lille, where the festival Another at the end of the day has been held for five years in the premises of the National Cinema Center and the animated image, in Paris, one of the main partners of the event which brought together, in 2022, around 70,000 visitors. This is the end of an intense viewing marathon for Laurence Herszberg, Director General, and Frédéric Lavigne, artistic director of the event held this year from March 17 to 24.

After having induced Anne Bouverot, Chairman of the board of directors of Technicolor Creative Studios, who takes the presidency of the festival following Rodolphe Belmer, who became CEO of TF1, the Mania series team revealed a resolutely international selection , less turned to the United States than on parts of the world where the creation of series is booming. “The Covid has certainly restricted access to the series at a time but, above all, the landscape of diffusers and platforms is in full reconfiguration,” explains Laurence Herszberg. The festival will open on Greek salad (premium video), the serial sequence of the triptych of Cédric Klapisch started in 2002 with the Spanish inn, and will end with the projection of Transatlantique (Netflix), a historic drama created by Anna Winger (Unorthodox).

Under the presidency of Lisa Joy, Westworld’s showrunner, the jury for international competition, composed of the English screenwriter Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch), Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the Israeli actor Yehuda Levi and the French Emmanuelle Béart and Lou Doillon, will have to decide between twelve series mainly from Europe, with the exception of The Actor, comedy on actors without work and first Iranian series to slip into the festival selection. France is represented by the drops of God, a Franco-American-Japanese project on the world of wine, whose first broadcast will be on Apple TV+, as well as by grace, a Franco-Belgian thriller visible on Arte.

FRANCE DU POLAR

The Jury of the International Panorama is, this year, chaired by the Goncourt Prix Hervé Le Tellier, whose book The anomaly is itself in the course of series. His jury will have to assess twelve series from around the world -Israel, Sweden, Mexico … -, and the festival will welcome its first Indo -Pakistani production on this occasion, Barzakh, the story of an old man determined to marry his love of youth deceased.
