To decide between the two referendum motions deposited by the left and the national rally, the Conference of Presidents of the Assembly opted for a draw.

Debates around the pension reform hardly subsides in the National Assembly. “What has just happened is unprecedented and properly scandalous,” denounced the presidents of the groups of left -wing deputies in a common letter to the president of the Assembly. The object of their wrath: it is not their referendum motion that will be debated in the hemicycle on February 6 but that deposited by the national rally.

On the initiative of the Communists, the elected officials on the left had however been the first to file on January 23 a motion aimed at obtaining a referendum on the pension reform. The RN had deposited its own the next day. However, only one of these motions can be subject to the vote of the Assembly, before the general discussion on the bill.

Drawing on the settlement of the Assembly, the deputies of the Nuts claim that only their motion could be put to the vote, on the grounds that it was deposited first and by a greater number of signatories. But in the absence of case law, the Conference of Presidents of the Assembly decided on a draw, including the RN group led by Marine Le Pen came out.

“The simple fact that a draw was proposed to decide between the two referendum motions is an arbitrary decision which is not based on any provision”, argue the left -wing deputies, invoking the “analytical table” of the regulation of the Assembly, which indicates that a single referendum motion can be deposited. As such, the left motion, deposited before that of the RN, should have been the only restraint, estimate the four group leaders, who ask the presidency “the cancellation of the draw”.

“Democratic diversion”

“They choose an opposition of comfort,” denounced the leader of the LFI Mathilde Panot deputies in front of the press, believing that the Nutpe motion had a chance to be adopted, contrary to that of the RN, that several elected officials on the left refuse to support.

“It is a democratic diversion”, abounded the boss of the Communist group André Chassaigne, indicating that the partners of the Nuts were going to consult to define a “common position” concerning the motion of the RN. “Out of the question” to vote for this extreme right motion, has already warned the president of the Ecolos deputies Cyrielle Chatelain.

Socialists have noted that they would not participate in the vote: “once again the relative majority and the RN taken hand in hand in the jar of jam,” denounced their group president Boris Vallaud.

The Motion RN must be subject to the vote in the first place, if all its signatories are present on February 6. If this was not the case, it would however be possible that the motion NUPES was put to the voices, there too with the need for all signatories to be present.
