The renewal of Fabien Roussel at the head of the Communist Party (PCF) is on the right track after the large victory, Sunday, January 29, of the pro-Roussel orientation text which will form the base of the next party congress in April.

The text of his supporters obtained nearly 82 % of the votes of the 29,898 voters, out of 42,237 activists up to date with registered contribution, against 18 % to the text “Emergency of Communism” presented by internal opponents of the outgoing leader.

Fabien Roussel, presidential candidate of 2022 (2.3 %), advanced in a big favorite with his succession at the head of the PCF. He judges the coalition of the left Nuts limited to conquer power and intends to continue on his “identity” line, wishing to bring the party out of the shadow of rebellious France. He also continues to want to promote “work value”, a discourse that arouses many controversies on the left.

The text of his supporters “Communist ambition for new happy days” was adopted by a short majority in the National Council in December, a preliminary but not decisive step. This tight result motivated the detractors of Fabien Roussel to present an alternative text, ” Emergency of communism, together for popular victories “, which criticizes a personalization of the party and wishes the deepening of the cloud. After Sunday’s vote now opens a phase of amendment, in February and March in the sections, then by the country’s communist federations.

Figures which were divided into two texts at the last congress this time were gone to weigh in front of the management: former national secretary Pierre Laurent and the mayor of Ivry-sur-Seine, Philippe Bouyssou, thus rub shoulders with Elsa Faucillon and Stéphane little, deputies favorable to a rapprochement with LFI. But none of them had been, even unofficially, designated as potential national secretary if their text should prevail.

Party tenors like the mayor of Montreuil, Patrice Bessac, and deputy Sébastien Jumel, notoriously refractory to Mr. Roussel, had chosen for the moment to remain neutral.

The PCF has approximately 90,000 members, but only 40,000 people up to date can vote, physically in the sections, by correspondence or by proxy. The party national congress will take place in Marseille from April 7 to 9.
