La Française Caroline Garcia, 4 world, was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Australian Open by the Polish Magda Linette (45th) 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, Monday in Melbourne.

The Polish player took advantage of Garcia’s lack of success, especially in the service, to beat her. And after the premature defeat of his compatriot and world number one Iga Swiatek the day before, it is she who will represent Poland in the quarterfinals.

“The key was my service because it punished me when I was not effective in my brought into play,” said the Polish who posted a success rate of 75 % of the first service balls.

For his part, Garcia, whose very risky game is very dependent on its own service, only succeeded 49 % of the first balls.

The French also conceded 33 direct faults for 27 winning shots, against 14 direct faults and 25 winning shots for Linette.

Garcia had however started the meeting on a double break which allowed him to detach himself 3-0. It was used for the set at 5-4, but Linette has grown before dominating the tie-break.
