Argon Forge Releases Optimized Builds of Key Software

Argon Forge Project Introduces Optimized Assemblies of Linux Graphics Stack Components

The Argon Forge project has been launched, offering optimized assemblies of key components of the Linux graphics stack. These components include Mesa, Gamescope, DXVK, VKD3D-Proton, and Wine. These assemblies are available through APT repositories hosted on GitHub Pages and are optimized for processors that support AVX2 (x86-64-v3) and AVX-512 (x86-64-v4) instructions.

Targeted at users of Devuan 6 “Excalibur” and Debian 13 “Trixie” distributions, the project aims to provide maximum performance from the graphics stack for gaming purposes. The packages are based on the library of these releases and are not recommended for installation on older distribution versions. The build scripts and GitHub Actions configurations of the project are distributed under the MIT license.

Each project within Argon Forge is available in two versions, differentiated by the target set of instructions and the package version suffix:

  • stable-avx2 (suffix “avx2”) – designed for processors supporting AVX2, BMI, and FMA, suitable for most x86-64 CPUs from 2013 onwards.
  • stable-avx512 (suffix “avx512”) – optimized for processors with AVX-512, including AMD Zen 4 and newer models.

Installation requires importing the GPG repository key and adding the corresponding codename to the “sources.list”. For example, to install Mesa:

curl -fsSL https://argonforge.github.io/mesa-builds/public.asc | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/argonforge-mesa.gpg echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/argonforge-mesa.gpg] https://argonforge.github.io/mesa-builds stable
