Pebble Smartwatches Revival Project Report Released

Core Devices has released a report on the progress of the Pebble platform. In just four months since the commencement of mass production, more than 23 thousand units of the Pebble Time 2 smartwatch have been manufactured, with over 80% of pre-orders fulfilled. The remaining devices are set to be distributed by the end of July, following which the watches will be available for sale.

Simultaneously, work on the open software platform PebbleOS for smartwatches is ongoing, with a focus on enhancing energy efficiency. Recent advancements have led to a significant improvement in battery life, with the Pebble 2 Duo now lasting over 30 days on a single charge, and the Pebble Time 2 operating for approximately three weeks without needing to be recharged.

The SDK for developers has been updated to include support for touch screens, speakers, RGB backlighting, enhanced capabilities for the Alloy JavaScript platform, the implementation of a mechanism for calling C code via FFI, and an integrated XSBUG debugger. As a result, the community has already developed 2120 applications and watch faces for the new devices.

Furthermore, the Pebble mobile application has expanded its support to include the Index 01 gadget (a ring with a button and a microphone) and has announced upcoming support for webhook, the MCP protocol, and end-to-end encryption of backups. The source code for the mobile application has been made publicly available under the GPLv3 license.
