National Crime Agency (NCA) arrested a 17-year-old teenager in connection with a cyber attack on the Transport for London (TFL) system, which occurred on September 1. The detention took place in the city of Walsall on September 5 as part of the investigation into the incident, which posed a threat to London’s transport infrastructure.
The young man is suspected of violating laws related to computer technology misuse. He was questioned by NCA officials and then released on bail. The investigation is ongoing, with NCA experts collaborating with the National Cybersecurity Centre and TFL to mitigate the impact and prevent future threats.
Paul Foster, Deputy Director of NCA and Head of the National Cybercrime Unit, highlighted the severity of attacks on infrastructure, stating that they can disrupt national systems and endanger the public. Through TFL’s swift response and initiation of an investigation, the situation was contained promptly. Foster reiterated NCA’s commitment to partnering with other agencies to combat such offenses.
In its efforts to combat cybercrime, the agency actively promotes cyber awareness towards enhancing cybersecurity measures.
