In Fedora Linux 43 on systems with architecture x86 plans to leave only the possibility of using tables sections GPT (Guid Partition Table) in all Fedora installations using UEFI. The change has not yet been considered by the FESCO committee (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), which is responsible for the technical part of the development of the Fedora distribution. In the case of proposal approval, support for the Fedora installation in UEFI mode on systems with tables of MBR (Master Boot Record) will be stopped on x86 systems, but left on ARM systems and RISC-V.
The reason for the termination of MBR support includes low reliability of loading in such configurations, disruption of MBR support in firmware, and the lack of proper testing in Fedora (GPT for UEFI is prescribed in the documentation for GRUB2). By leaving only GPT support on X86 systems on the Anaconda installer, it is expected to prevent emergency completions at the loading stage caused by Efibootmgr. The termination of MBR support will also reduce the workload of individuals involved in user support, simplify support, and testing.
Initially, MBR support in UEFI mode was added to
