NetBSD 8.3 Release Completes NETBSD-8 Branch Escort Cycle

Four years after the last renewal of the branch 8.x, NetBSD has published the release of the operating system NetBSD 8.3, completing the NETBSD-8 branch escort cycle. This release brings corrective updates that address stability and safety issues identified since the publication of NetBSD 8.2 in April 2020. The NetBSD 8.x branch will continue to receive updates for the next 6 years. Alongside this release, significant updates were also made in March with the release of NetBSD 10.0 and in April with the introduction of NetBSD 9.4. Installation images for NetBSD 8.3, available for 57 system architectures and 16 different CPU families, can be downloaded.

Notable Changes in NetBSD 8.3 Include:

  • Updated versions of LIBX11 1.6.10, XTERM 366, and TMUX 3.1C.
  • Updated data on time zones and root servers DNS.
  • Added support for new WAV format options in Audioplay and Audiorecord utilities.
  • Transferred support for relative redirects to the FTP utility using HTTP.
  • Established file processing of more than 4GB in httpd on 32-bit systems.
  • Increased the limit determining the maximum allowable number of open files on systems with large RAM.
