Distribution Tails 6.2 Released

A specialized distribution known as Tails 6.2 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been released, based on the Debian 12 package base with the GNOME 43 desktop. This distribution is designed for anonymous network access, provided by the Tor system. All connections, except those through the Tor network, are blocked by default. User data is encrypted for storage between sessions. The ISO-image for live-mode operation is available for download at 1 GB.

In this new version:

  • Updated versions of Tor Browser 13.0.13 (based on Firefox 115.10), Tor 0.4.8.11, and Thunderbird 115.20 have been included.
  • The Welcome Screen now allows for localization in 21 additional languages, including Ukrainian, Armenian, Kazakh, Latvian, and Estonian (Russian was available previously).
  • The localization section in the Welcome Screen has been renamed to “Language and Formats.”
  • The Tails Upgrader interface now has the option to postpone updates activated by default.
  • Issues with reading and writing to USB drives have been addressed.
  • WiFi reliability problems have been resolved.
  • SYSRQ key processing has been disabled.
  • Specter V4 vulnerability protection has been enhanced with “Spec_store_bypass_disable = ON” by default.
