Young Man in St. Petersburg Steals $250K for Game Accessories

In St. Petersburg, a local resident is facing accusations of stealing a substantial amount of money from his girlfriend to make in-game purchases in the popular mobile game Pubg Mobile, as reported by telegram channel Mash.

According to the report, the couple had been together for about five years, during which they developed differing views on financial planning and life priorities. While the girl was saving up money for her dream of owning her own home, her partner found satisfaction in more immediate pleasures such as going to the gym and playing Pubg Mobile. This game allows players to purchase cosmetic enhancements for their characters, like weapon skins and clothing, that do not impact gameplay but enhance the character’s appearance in the game world.

Over the course of five months, the man allegedly siphoned off 250 thousand rubles from the girl’s savings, with 233 thousand being spent directly on PUBG. When the couple ended their relationship, the girl realized that half of her savings were missing. Confronted by his ex-girlfriend, the man initially denied any involvement. However, once the matter was reported to the police, he admitted to the theft and reimbursed the stolen funds.

The prosecutor’s office has approved the theft as having caused significant damage, and the case has been forwarded to the court. Despite facing a potential five-year prison sentence, the man may receive leniency due to his reimbursement of the losses. It is possible that he could receive a suspended sentence or a fine as punishment.
