GhostBSD 24.01.1 Release: Higher Stability and Security for FreeBSD 14.0

In the latest update Ghostbsd 24.01.1, significant changes have occurred, based on the version of FreeBSD 14.0-Stable.

One of the key innovations applies to the Update Station, which now allows for updating to the main versions of FreeBSD, in particular from 13.2-stable to 14.0-Stable. In addition, changes were made to the installer: the created user is now an administrator, and the Root account receives the same password as the administrator. After installation, the change in the administrator password will not affect the password of the user Root.

The update also brought improvements, new opportunities and corrections. Among them:

  • Support for the future installer;
  • Simplification of the desktop setting;
  • Add new wallpaper for version 24.01;
  • Preparation for update to Freebsd 14.0;
  • The search function was introduced not only by the name of the package, but also according to its description, which simplifies navigation for the available software;
  • Added German, Swedish and Norwegian languages to the network management and a translation into Russian was corrected into Russian other components.

Merks are noted and fixed, including problems with the 32-bit version of Wine, the Whisker menu and the video. In addition, improvements were made in the ZFS and EFI settings to ensure stability and system safety.

In the field of security, dependencies were updated to protect the system from vulnerabilities. Despite the wide range of improvements, the developers note well-known problems, including the absence of wallpaper at the first entrance to the system and the lack of warning when setting up the administrator account.

For users who want to be updated from version 23.10.1 to 01/24/1, detailed instruction covers The update process via PKG, as well as updating the ZFS pool and instructions for updating the EFI files for old installations.
